SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan Immigration Department detained 184 undocumented migrants for various immigration offences during a raid at a battery factory in Nilai, yesterday.

State director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang said those arrested comprised 163 men and 21 women from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan and Indonesia, aged between 20 and 49.

He said the operation, which began at 7.50am and lasted nearly four hours, followed public complaints about foreigners suspected of working without valid permits or identification documents.

“Several of them attempted to hide behind power supply machines and among stacks of factory products to avoid arrest, but were successfully tracked down,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Tan said all detainees have been placed at the Lenggeng Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.

He added that the offences included the absence of valid passes and travel documents, overstaying and other violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963. – BERNAMA
