KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) — National lawn bowler Emma Firyana Saroji showed nerves of steel to bounce back from a set down to storm into the women’s singles final of the 2025 World Cup at Juara Stadium Bukit Kiara here today.
Emma Firyana began her semi-final clash against Australia’s Dawn Hayman in a nervy fashion and duly lost, but the 39-year-old Malaysian regained her composure to win the next two sets for a 2-1 triumph.
“My performance is still up and down because I am still trying to find my rhythm. However, Alhamdulillah, things clicked in the second and third sets today, and I managed to get into the final,” said Emma Firyana.
However, Nurul Alyani Jamil failed to make it an all-Malaysian final when she fell 2-0 to England’s Katherine Rednall in the other semi-final.
With the defeat, Nurul Alyani settled for the bronze medal.
“I hope to do better (with Emma Firyana) in the women’s pairs event, which starts tomorrow,” said Nurul Alyani.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s pairs event ended in tatters when Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple-Soufi Rusli could only finish fourth in the group stage.
