KUCHING, Nov 5 (Bernama) — The Sarawak government continues to strengthen its position as a premier tourism destination ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 with the recognition of the Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM), which has now been listed at the top of the Museum World Ranking website.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government is committed to positioning museums as key attractions for both local and international visitors, demonstrating the strong potential of the heritage and cultural sector in drawing tourists.
“With its modern design and interactive exhibitions showcasing Borneo’s rich ethnic heritage, this museum has become a symbol of progress and pride for the people of Sarawak.
“In addition, we are upgrading the Natural History Museum, which features Darwin and Wallace’s evolutionary theories as well as artefacts and the state’s biodiversity, to attract visitors from around the world,” he told reporters after officiating the opening of a new three-star hotel here today.
The BCM claimed the top spot on the Museum World Ranking website’s online-voting chart, surpassing the renowned Louvre Museum in Paris.
As of 9.30 am today, BCM had garnered 49,467 votes, while the Louvre was in second place with 4,059 votes, according to an update on the museumworldranking.net website.
