PETALING JAYA: The Digital Ministry will roll out its National Cyber Ethics Module (ESN) in schools nationwide in the coming school year, targeting increased awareness and knowledge of online safety and ethics among students.

In a press release, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo says the module aims to nurture ethical and safe online practices among children amidst the growing popularity of digital games and various online programmes.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education under the Madani government’s whole-of-government approach, the module will provide comprehensive guidance on both social media and Internet use.

The ESN itself covers six key areas, including Digital Fluency, Digital Ethics, Digital Health and Well-being, Digital Commerce, Digital Privacy and Security, and Digital Rights and Responsibilities.

The module is part of the CyberSAFE in Schools programme, now handled by the Education Ministry following a handover back in July this year.

CyberSecurity Malaysia remains a technical partner with the programme, providing up-to-date cybersecurity-related input, technical training and digital curriculum support to the Education Ministry, along with monitoring and evaluation of the module’s effectiveness.

Currently, a pilot phase for the module is being conducted in select schools nationwide. Findings from the pilot test will be used to reinforce and improve the ESN later this year before its full implementation in January 2026.

Online training for Education Ministry officers on the national implementation of the module is scheduled to begin next month.
