KUALA LUMPUR: Local rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has been remanded for six days in connection with the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi.
“He has been remanded for six days until Nov 10,” Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said when contacted on Wednesday (Nov 5).

“The remand application was made at Dang Wangi district police headquarters.”
Earlier, ACP Sazalee confirmed that Namewee was in police custody.
It was reported that Namewee had surrendered himself to the police early Wednesday morning.
In a social media post, Namewee uploaded a video showing a police station in the background.

“I have just arrived in Kuala Lumpur.
“I have now arrived at the police station, and from here on, I will fully cooperate with the police investigation to give an explanation to the public and the deceased’s family.
“I will not run away, in the past when I was wanted (by the police), I voluntarily reported myself each time and never fled,” he said on Facebook.

The police had earlier said they were looking for Namewee to assist the investigation into Hsieh’s death.
She was found dead in a hotel room in the city on Oct 22. Namewee was reportedly the last person with her before her death.
Police initially classified the case as sudden death, but reclassified it as murder on Tuesday (Nov 4).
