BINTULU, Nov 5 — Police have arrested a man in his early 50s in connection with the rape and robbery of a woman at the Similajau Forest Reserve on Oct 29.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had impersonated a police officer and deceived the victim by offering financial assistance.

“The suspect then lured the victim to the crime scene, seized her mobile phone, and subsequently raped her,” Nixon said in a statement.

Following intensive intelligence operations from Oct 30 to Nov 4, he said a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team traced and arrested the suspect in Sibu around 2.30pm yesterday.

The suspect has been detained to assist investigations under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, Section 376 for rape, and Section 170 for impersonating a public servant.

Nixon also advised the public to remain vigilant and not to easily trust individuals claiming to be government officers without proper verification. — The Borneo Post
