KUALA LUMPUR: The police have confirmed that local rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, has been detained in connection with the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yun-hsin.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said the suspect will be remanded at the Dang Wangi distinct police headquarters on Wednesday (Nov 5).

“He will be remanded this morning,” he said when contacted.

It was reported that Namewee had surrendered himself to the police early this morning.

In a social media post, Namewee took a video, showing a police station in the background.

“I have just arrived in Kuala Lumpur.

“I have now arrived at the police station, and from here on, I will fully cooperate with the police investigation to give an explanation to the public and the deceased’s family.

“I will not run away, in the past when I was wanted (by the police), I voluntarily reported myself each time and never fled,” he said in a post on Facebook.

The police had earlier said they are looking for Namewee to assist investigation into Hsieh’s death.

The case, initially classified as sudden death, has since been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code following the discovery of suspicious elements.

Namewee was reportedly the last person with Hsieh prior to her death.

Hsieh was found lying in a bathtub of a hotel room at 1.40pm on Oct 22.
