[UPDATED] Muhyiddin to review Bersatu Appeals Board findings amid internal rift

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu president Tan Sri Yassin said he would review the findings and recommendations of the party’s Appeals Board regarding members who have appealed disciplinary action taken against them.

This follows the appointment of Tan Sri Azhar Azizan @ Harun as chairman of the Appeals Board, alongside Datuk Seri Zulkifli Noordin, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad and Datuk Fahimee Ismail as members to the new board.

did not specify when the hearings would be held.

“The term ‘review’ is very broad. Whatever the committee or board recommends, we will study, and if it is suitable and acceptable, we will implement it,” he told reporters after announcing the appointments today.

The Bersatu president also confirmed that the party would not be taking further disciplinary action against members who have already faced sanctions.

Bersatu supreme council member Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who was suspended on Oct 14 following a disciplinary hearing, had earlier alleged that the delay in appointing Appeals Board members was intentional to keep sanctioned members in limbo.

Wan Fayhsal also claimed that the party’s disciplinary board was biased and that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was being unfairly targeted in disciplinary proceedings. Hamzah was among those present at tonight’s council meeting.

On Oct 14, Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board announced that Wan Fayhsal had been suspended, while Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and four others were expelled from the party.
