PETALING JAYA:

Police are reportedly on the hunt for controversial singer Namewee, whom they have struggled to locate after the death of a Taiwanese social media influencer was reclassified as murder.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the cops had been unable to locate Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, who was at the hotel where Hsieh Yu-hsin was found dead.

Fadil believes that Wee is aware of the murder probe after it was reported by the media, The Star reported.

“We have not been able to locate him and we believe he has gone into hiding,” he was quoted as saying.

Hsieh had reportedly met with Wee at the hotel to discuss filming a video together. He is said to have found her dead in a bathtub.

Wee was nabbed by police on Oct 22 at the hotel, where authorities discovered nine blue pills, suspected to be ecstasy, in the room. He later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.

He was then charged with drug possession and consumption but pleaded not guilty. The court allowed him to post bail at RM4,000 for each charge.
