Sarawak police caution public as 70-year-old man loses RM1.2m in fake crypto scheme

KUCHING, Nov 4 — A 70-year-old man here lost about RM1.2 million after he fell victim to an online investment scam.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the whole ordeal began in March, when the private company retiree found an investment advertisement on social media.

The victim then contacted the suspect and was added to a WhatsApp group called ‘AI Intelligance Future Forum’.

“The victim was then offered a crypto investment in the BACXN Exchange website via the link www.bacxn.com.

“This was when the victim was deceived by the suspect as the victim conducted several transactions to the bank account given by the suspect amounting to RM1.2 million,” he said in a statement.

Mohamad Zainal said the man finally realised he had been duped when he was unable to withdraw the so-called profits shown in the BACXN Exchange website.

The police commissioner advised the public to exercise extreme caution when encountering investment opportunities online, especially those promising high returns with little risk.

He stressed the importance of verifying the legitimacy of investment schemes and entities offering it.
