BERNAMA – Sabah Polls: BN To Finalise Seats Next Week

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 (Bernama) — Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to finalise the number of seats it will contest in the 17th Sabah State Election next week, said party chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said the official announcement will be made during his visit to Kota Kinabalu.

“I will make the announcement when I travel to Kota Kinabalu next week,” he told reporters when asked whether BN would contest fewer than 48 seats in the state polls.

He said this after officiating the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (FOI) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.

Ahmad Zahid also stated that 80 per cent of BN‘s candidates in the election will be fresh faces.

He said the move demonstrates the party’s commitment to renewal and seeks to engage young voters in Sabah to back BN in the election.

Ahmad Zahid also confirmed that seat allocation negotiations between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are nearly complete, with around 95 per cent finalised and only a few technical details remaining under discussion.

Sabah BN chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was reported as saying that seat allocation discussions between BN and PH were in their final phase, with nearly 70 per cent already finalised.

The Election Commission has set Nov 29 as polling day for the state election, with nomination day on Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25.

The Sabah State Assembly has 79 seats, of which 73 are contested, while the remaining six are appointed assembly members.
