KLANG, Nov 4 — GM Klang has officially extended its operating hours to 10am–10pm daily, marking a new phase in the wholesale centre’s transformation into a community and lifestyle hub.
The initiative was launched on November 1 in a ceremony officiated by Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) mayor Datuk Haji Abd. Hamid Hussain, and witnessed by Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling and GM Klang managing director Datuk Lim Seng Kok.
GM Klang said the move serves as an appreciation to the millions of customers who have contributed to its growth since it opened in 2009.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GM Klang and six new strategic partners in the sports, recreation and lifestyle segments. The signing — witnessed by the same dignitaries — involved D2 Arena (futsal), Kfitness Gym (gymnasium), JAQS Padel & Pickle PLT (pickleball and paddleball), Doremart (supermarket), 33 Food Court (food court) and Positif@Klang (food truck).
Signing on behalf of GM Klang was chief operating officer Foo Loke Ping. He said the MoU is a strategic step toward positioning the centre not only as a wholesale destination but as a modern lifestyle hub that appeals to wholesalers, retailers, families and the local community.
“This strategic collaboration does more than unlock new business opportunities; it reinforces the B2B2C (Business-to-Business-to-Consumer) concept at GM Klang, where wholesalers, retailers and consumers interact in a complete, progressive and engaging environment that can spur local economic growth,” he said.
To commemorate the first day of its new operating hours, GM Klang collaborated with the National Department for Culture and Arts Selangor, Tourism Selangor and MBDK to present Ceritera Selangor, a cultural showcase highlighting the diversity of Selangor’s heritage.
The two-hour performance featured traditional dances, Mah Meri cultural displays, Cempuling music and other cultural elements in support of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign. GM Klang is one of Klang City’s official tourism ambassadors.
Lim said the extended hours reflect a major step forward in enhancing visitor experience.
“We’re not merely extending our hours, but we’re enriching the entire customer experience. This move is a direct response to the needs of both shoppers and wholesalers who are seeking greater time flexibility and a more seamless, comprehensive shopping environment.
“With the rapid development surrounding Bandar Botanic, Klang including the upcoming LRT3 line, now is the ideal time to propel GM Klang into its next phase as a premier wholesale and lifestyle tourism destination,” he said.
He added that GM Klang’s recent Gold Award under the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) strengthens its commitment to better service standards. “With our strategic location and strong continuous community support, we are confident that GM Klang will continue to grow as Malaysia’s leading hub for wholesale, tourism and lifestyle, both locally and regionally,” he said.
In conjunction with the new hours, GM Klang has introduced a series of promotions and activities, including nightly deals from 7pm, a monthly “Shop & Win” draw featuring prizes such as a motorcycle, a 2-in-1 washer-dryer and a 55-inch smart TV, and Riiooh Malam Sabtu, a weekly themed series with family-friendly entertainment.
GM Klang also unveiled Dataran GM Klang, a new open-air space that will host community, cultural, entertainment and entrepreneurial activities. The square will serve as a permanent platform to support programmes that promote diversity and inclusion.
