KUALA LUMPUR: Most of the objectives under Asean’s Five-Point Consensus (5PC) for Myanmar have been fulfilled, but the civil war in the country remains a problem, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
The Foreign Minister said objectives such as the appointment of a special envoy and engagements under the 5PC have already been met.

“What is lacking now is an end to the violence, and also access to humanitarian aid.
“There is disruption there. The disruption is not only because of the government, but (also) due to the inter-ethnic conflict there,” he told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Nov 4).
He said the disruption has led to aid not reaching those who need it.
“Since Malaysia became the Asean Chair, violence in Myanmar has been greatly reduced,” he said, adding that the civil war there was different from the dynamics of the Cambodia-Thailand conflict.
He said the warring groups could not see eye to eye during the initial engagements, but the situation progressed well after several rounds.

He added that Malaysia had taken note of their wishlist and conveyed it to the Myanmar junta government.
Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman(PN-Sik) asked about concrete measures to get commitment from other countries in implementing the 5PC.
The Asean 5PC for Myanmar lays out a roadmap for peace, calling for an immediate cessation of violence, inclusive national dialogue, humanitarian assistance, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
