Sg Golok shooting: Suspect carried out attack with younger brother, say cops

KOTA BARU: The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Malaysian citizen in Sungai Golok, Thailand, last Saturday is alleged to have carried out the attack with his younger brother.

police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspect’s brother fled following the attack and remains at large.

He described both suspects as armed and dangerous, having brutally shot the victim.

“We received information from the Thai police that the main suspect surrendered and was arrested at around 6pm (local time/7pm in Malaysia) yesterday.

“Police are also investigating claims that the suspect holds dual citizenship,” he said when contacted today.

Mohd Yusoff said the suspect had no prior criminal record in Malaysia, but police will conduct further investigations based on forthcoming information.

“We are currently awaiting details from the Thai police, including the suspect’s background,” he said.

According to him, police have tightened security at the Malaysia-Thailand border, setting up roadblocks to track down the suspect’s younger brother.

Today, Bernama reported that the main suspect, who is a former import player for the football team, surrendered to Thai police yesterday.

Bernama also reported that a Malaysian man was shot dead at about 7pm on Saturday at his house in Sungai Golok town.
