KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed receiving a report of a theft involving a female victim whose wallet was stolen by a pickpocket in Bukit Bintang, following a viral video of the incident circulating on social media.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the report was lodged on Oct 10.
“Further investigations are underway,” he said briefly today.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a woman claiming that her wallet had been stolen by a pickpocket in the Bukit Bintang area, resulting in the loss of cash and gold dinar coins.
The TikTok video showed the victim walking with a backpack when a man was seen opening it and stealing her wallet.
The total losses were estimated at RM8,200, comprising RM3,200 in cash and two gold dinar coins.
The video has since garnered over 2.4 million views, 56,100 likes and 2,856 comments.
