KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Police have reclassified the death of security guard R. Chandran, who died after he was assaulted outside a Jalan Ipoh condominium last month, as murder.
The 54-year-old victim was allegedly attacked by a 32-year-old resident with a pistol-shaped lighter at the Menara Megah condominium after refusing a request to accompany the man to his unit.
Chandran later died after seeking medical treatment.
Sentul police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari confirmed the investigation is now classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, the New Straits Times reported.
“Once the victim passed away, the classification was reviewed,” he explained.
The case was initially investigated under Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.
Ahmad Sukarno added that the suspect, believed to be a unit owner, remains on police bail pending further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor (DPP), to whom the investigation paper has been submitted.
