JOHOR BARU, Nov 3 — The Malaysia-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project is now 65 per cent complete, with the first of its train sets scheduled to arrive this month ahead of trial runs beginning in December, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today.
Speaking after a site inspection, Loke provided a detailed breakdown of the progress, noting that the viaduct is 91 per cent complete, while the Bukit Chagar Station and the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex are at 73 per cent and 77 per cent completion, respectively.
He reaffirmed that the high-impact project remains on track to be fully completed by Dec 31, 2026, with operations expected to commence in January 2027, according to Utusan Malaysia.
“Today marks my first visit to the site since the completion of the main structure,” he said, adding that the first train set is expected at the Wadi Hana Depot by mid-November.
However, Loke stressed that the initial trial runs will not be open to the public, as this phase is critical for system integration, safety testing, and signalling inspections.
RTS Operations (RTSO) chief executive officer Dr Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin added that while one train will be brought in from Singapore, three more train sets from Batu Gajah are expected to arrive by the end of this year.
The RTS Link is a cross-border rail project designed to enhance connectivity between Johor Bahru in Malaysia and Woodlands in Singapore.
The system spans approximately 4km and features twin tracks that connect key urban centers in both countries, with the aim of easing congestion at the Causeway and fostering stronger economic and social ties.
