SHAH ALAM: Former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has emphasised that he never left the party, reports Sinar Harian.
The former health minister said that it was, in fact, the party that had decided to expel him.
“There have been several comments regarding this issue. Let me clarify, I never left Umno. You expelled me.
“Please don’t try to change history,” the Malay language daily quoted him as saying in an Instagram Story on Sunday (Nov 2).
It was previously reported that Khairy is expected to rejoin Umno before the Sabah state election scheduled for the end of the month.
Khairy, who is currently working as a radio presenter at Hot FM, reportedly has the “blessing” of the party’s top leadership, particularly president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to return to Umno.
Ahmad Zahid is said to have asked Khairy to submit an application to rejoin Umno after he was expelled in January 2023.
Since his expulsion, Khairy has been active on his podcast platform, “Keluar Sekejap”, which now has 397,000 followers or subscribers.
Khairy also said that he would address all questions regarding his possible return to the party soon, but he asked for a little time before providing any explanation.
“Give me a few weeks before I’m ready to answer,” he said.
