413,000 to sit for 2025 SPM, marking new chapter for first cohort without UPSR, PT3

KUALA LUMPUR: On Monday, 413,372 candidates will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 examination at 3,350 centres nationwide, but this batch is unlike any before.

For the first time, the Form Five cohort sitting for the SPM has never taken the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

The 2020 UPSR was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the examination was officially abolished in 2021.

Similarly, the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 (PT3) was cancelled in 2021 and formally abolished in 2022 by then education minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.

In August 2022, he said the abolition of both exams was part of efforts to strengthen the national education system by enabling the effective implementation of the School-Based Assessment (PBS) and giving teachers greater flexibility to conduct teaching and learning in creative and innovative ways.

According to the Education Ministry (MOE), the Bahasa Melayu oral test will be held from Nov 3 to 6, followed by the English oral test from Nov 10 to 13.

The Science practical test will take place from Nov 17 to 19, while the Bahasa Melayu and English listening tests will be conducted on Nov 20.

The written examinations will run from Nov 25 to Dec 23, with 127,526 examination personnel appointed to ensure the smooth management and administration of the SPM.

The ministry reminded candidates to refer to the official SPM 2025 timetable for full details on examination dates, times, paper codes and titles, as well as instructions to be followed throughout the examination period.

The timetable can be downloaded from the Malaysian Examinations Board (Lembaga Peperiksaan) portal at lp.moe.gov.my.

Candidates have also been reminded to bring their identification documents and Examination Registration Slip to the examination centres, and to comply with all standard operating procedures and regulations to ensure a smooth and orderly examination process.
