KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Umno Secretary-General, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, confirmed that Khairy Jamaluddin has expressed interest in returning to the party.
Sinar Harian reported Asyraf saying: “Yes… we are open, as stated before. We are waiting for the (official) letter,” he said after the launch of the Mara Automotive Ecosystem (MATEC 2025) at Bukit Jalil Stadium today.
According to previous media reports, Khairy, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Rembau, is expected to rejoin Umno ahead of the Sabah state elections at the end of next month.
Khairy, also popularly known as KJ, has reportedly received the blessing of Umno‘s top leadership, especially the party president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to return.
The former health minister is said to have expressed his intention to rejoin Umno during an informal meeting with the president at a recent wedding reception.
He has said last year on his podcast that he has refused offers to join other parties, stating that he still see himself as a member of Umno.
