SEPANG: A man was arrested and his car impounded after being caught offering illegal transport services to foreign nationals at Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Friday.
The Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) said in a statement that intelligence and close monitoring led to the apprehension of the driver and the seizure of the vehicle used in the illegal activity.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the operator persuaded and offered transportation services to three Bangladeshi passengers from KLIA Terminal 1 to Agile Residence, Bukit Bintang, charging a fare of RM80 payable upon arrival at the destination,” the statement read.
He added that the action was taken under Section 205(1) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010), which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction.
“Individuals who abet such illegal activities can also be prosecuted under Section 243(1) of the same act,” the statement said.
The department also advised the public to use legitimate transportation services available at the official counters in KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 or registered e-hailing platforms.
“Any complaints can be submitted via [email protected] or through the e-aduan@JPJ application,” the statement said.
