Flood situation improves in Kedah, remains steady in Perak


KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah has shown signs of improvement as of last night, while conditions in Perak remain unchanged.

In Kedah, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) reported that the number of evacuees had dropped to 264 people from 61 families as of 8pm, compared with 329 victims from 81 families earlier in the day.

All victims from the Pendang district are currently sheltering at two temporary relief centres — the Tanah Merah Sports Complex Hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tunku Intan Shafinaz.

In Perak, the number of flood victims housed at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai relief centre in Manjung remains at 124 people from 33 families, according to the state JPBN Secretariat.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) said the water level of Sungai Kinta in the Kinta district was at the alert level, measuring 248.02 metres — above the normal level of 243.50 metres.— BERNAMA
