Malaysians keep looking at their phones as FIFA verdict looms


KUALA LUMPUR: Fans across the country have been anxiously peering over their phones, looking for news of the FIFA judgment on Malaysia.

The excitement picked up as Velez Sarfield, the Argentine club of Imanol Machuca, one of the seven heritage players suspended by FIFA, said the world body is expected to make an announcement on Monday or Tuesday next week.

FIFA was initially expected to announce its final decision on FAM’s appeal on Oct 30, but there has been no word.

FIFA, in September, fined the FA of Malaysia (FAM) 350,000 Swiss francs (RM 1.9 million) for alleged falsification of eligibility documents relating to the seven naturalised players.

The seven players are Machuca, Rodrigo Holgado, Facundo Garces, Joao Figueiredo, Hector Hevel, Jon Irazabal, Hector Hevel and Gabriel Palmero, who were each find 2,000 Swiss francs and suspended for 12 months.
