Decomposed body discovered in Lebuh Gelugor, foul play ruled out

GEORGE TOWN: Police have found the body of a man, believed to be a local, in a bushy area near Taman Ghee Hiang, Lebuh Gelugor, last night.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the discovery was made at 7.20pm following a tip-off from the public.

“Preliminary investigations at the scene suggest the deceased is a 45-year-old local man, based on identification documents recovered from his body.

“Examinations conducted by the state police forensic team and K9 unit of the surrounding area revealed no suspicious signs,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Rozak added that a post-mortem conducted today could not determine the cause of death due to the decomposed condition of the remains.

“However, no injuries or evidence of foul play were detected,” he said.

The police have classified the case as sudden death and have opened a report to facilitate further investigations.
