KUALA LUMPUR: Firemen have extinguished the fire that broke out on the 57th floor of Petronas Tower 3 this morning, with no casualties reported.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander, Mohd Hafizan Hassan said a total of 35 personnel from three fire stations — Sentul, Jalan Tun Razak and Hang Tuah — were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 6.41am.

He said the fire was brought under control at 7.04am and completely extinguished by 8.45am.

“The team arrived at the location at 6.48am and entered the building offensively to extinguish the blaze using the building’s internal fire safety systems, including fire hoses and wet risers system.

“Our operation made full use of the building’s existing fire safety systems, which were found to be functional.

“This allowed us to contain the fire from spreading to other floors,” he said when met at the scene.

He added that there were no casualties involved and the forensic unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

“As for the restaurant on the affected floor, it has been temporarily closed throughout the investigation process,” he added.

He said public access to the surrounding area remains open, and members of the public may continue their activities as usual.

Checks by the New Straits Times at the scene revealed that the situation in the surrounding area has returned to normal, with members of the public strolling nearby as usual.

However, police presence remains at the site as certain areas are still cordoned off.

Earlier, videos circulating on social media showed flames and thick smoke billowing from the upper floors of the skyscraper, which houses a luxury food and beverage outlet.
