While a dedicated app for WhatsApp has been available for smartwatches running Wear OS for quite some time now, no such thing exists for the Apple Watch just yet. However, it seems that the messaging platform is currently working to bridge the gap.
According to WABetaInfo, Meta has introduced an app for the Apple Watch in the latest WhatsApp build on TestFlight. Currently, this version of the app allows for basic functionalities, such as the ability to read and respond to chats. Users can also compose messages at any time. Beyond that, the app supports voice messages, as well as emoji reactions.

It is worth noting that in its current state, the app requires an iPhone to work. This means that users cannot access WhatsApp on their smartwatches without having their phones nearby. For what it’s worth though, the connection is automatic, without the need to scan any QR codes. That is, as long as the Apple Watch is paired with an iPhone.

At the time of writing, this iteration of the app is only available for beta testers who have the latest WhatsApp update installed via TestFlight. The app has a minimum requirement of watchOS 10.0. As for when Meta will be releasing the app for the general public, it is still uncertain.
