MELAKA, Oct 31 — Two military officers with the rank of captain pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of injuring their subordinate, a Second Lieutenant, at Terendak Camp, Sungai Udang, here last February.
According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Solehudin Darus, 30, and Ahmad Hazlan Haris Azman, 28, are accused of intentionally causing injuries to the 26-year-old victim on the face, back and thighs.
The offence was allegedly committed in front of the officers’ mess of the 1st Royal Artillery Regiment at Terendak Camp between 2.30am and 6am on February 22.
The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides for a maximum one-year jail term or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Abdullah Mohd Rodzlad proposed that bail be set at RM10,000 for each accused, with the additional condition that they do not disturb the victim or prosecution witnesses throughout the proceedings.
Counsel P. Shamala, representing both accused, appealed for a lower bail amount of between RM1,000 and RM2,000, citing that her clients had families to support and had long served in the military with no disciplinary record.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman allowed each accused bail of RM3,000 and agreed to the additional conditions proposed.
The case was set for mention and submission of documents on December 18. — Bernama
