Tang Jie may have to wait longer for competitive return

KUALA LUMPUR: One half of Malaysia’s mixed doubles world champions has been declared “fit to train”.

But Chen Tang Jie is required to continue with treatment for his right shoulder injury.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky said Tang Jie should remain careful in training although his injury is not serious.

“Based on the doctor’s report — he is fit to train, but is still under treatment. So, he needs to be careful in training,” said Rexy today.

“Tang Jie suffered the injury during the second round of the French Open two weeks ago.”

Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei lost in the quarter-finals in France to Hong Kong’s world No. 7 Tang Chun Man–Tse Ying Suet ().

They subsequently withdrew from the ongoing Hylo Open in Germany.

Ee Wei said: “We have to look at Tang Jie’s condition and his recovery and look at our long-term plan.”

Tang Jie–Ee Wei will not compete in the Kumamoto Masters (Nov 11–16) but have been entered for the Australia Open (Nov 18–23).

However, it will not be surprising if Tang Jie–Ee Wei skip the Australian event to focus on the Thailand SEA Games (Dec 7–14) and World Tour Finals in Hangzhou (Dec 17–21).
