PUTRAJAYA, Oct 31 — The public has been advised to check the registration status of influenza test kits on the official Medical Device Authority (MDA) portal at https://mdar.mda.gov.my/ before making any purchase or use, to ensure the products comply with safety standards.
In a statement today, the MDA announced that influenza test kits are now available at licensed pharmacies across the country, emphasising that all influenza test kits on the market must be registered with the authority to ensure their quality, safety, and effectiveness.
“All hospitals, clinics, public as well as private healthcare facilities are required to source their influenza test kits only from manufacturers, importers or distributors registered with the MDA,” read the statement.
It also noted that all registered establishments must ensure a consistent and adequate supply of influenza test kits in the market to prevent disruption to healthcare facilities and professionals.
Meanwhile, the MDA advised healthcare professionals not to purchase the test kits through e-commerce platforms, even if the products appear legitimate.
“Influenza test kits should be purchased directly from licensed pharmacies or through the official online platforms of registered manufacturers to ensure the products comply with current standards and regulations,” the MDA said, adding that it will carry out spot checks at government and private hospitals and pharmacies to ensure compliance.
The MDA also reported that its ongoing monitoring has found a shortage of influenza test kits at several pharmacies and healthcare facilities.
“The MDA is taking swift action to ensure the supply is replenished and sufficiently distributed to meet current demand,” the statement read.
It stressed that any smuggling, distribution, or sale of unregistered influenza test kits is strictly prohibited, and stern action will be taken against those involved. — Bernama
