KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Police have recorded the statement of the brother of a six-year-old boy who was seriously injured when his neck was slashed with a knife, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim’s brother remains under the supervision of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), while both parents were remanded for two days starting yesterday, Harian Metro reported today.
Batu Pahat District Police Chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the brother’s statement was taken to complete the investigation, after police had earlier identified the alleged perpetrator.
Whether the child will be placed under JKM care upon discharge will be decided following discussions between the police, hospital, and JKM, he added.
The Magistrates’ Court had remanded the victim’s 41-year-old parents to assist investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said preliminary investigations indicate that a popular online game could have influenced the incident.
The victim’s brother had reportedly played excessively, amassing about one million points, which were later lost when the victim allegedly damaged his phone.
“From questioning, it appears the brother may have experienced hallucination-like episodes at night and felt compelled to harm a family member,” he said.
