GYEONGJU (South Korea): Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived here Thursday (Oct 30) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) from tomorrow until Nov 1.
The Prime Minister, who arrived at his hotel at 9:05pm local time (8:05pm Malaysia time), was welcomed by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and the Malaysian delegation.
Earlier, the plane carrying Anwar and the Malaysian delegation landed at Gimhae Air Base at Gimhae International Airport, Busan, at 7:41pm (6:41pm Malaysia time).
The Prime Minister was greeted by Lim Kimo, Head of the Preparatory Office for APEC 2025, Gyeongju Vice-Governor Hojun Song, and 5th Air Force Commander Brigadier General Kang Geun-shin.
He was also welcomed by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Malaysian ambassador to South Korea, Datuk Mohd Zamruni Khalid.
On Firday (Oct 31), the Prime Minister has a busy schedule, including delivering Malaysia’s official statement during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Dialogue with Guests.
Anwar is expected to emphasise the importance of inclusivity in strengthening supply chains, digital economic development, and regional cooperation for sustainable development.
He will then have face-to-face meetings with representatives from Nvidia and YTL Power.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will meet with the APEC Business Coalition from the United States, followed by individual meetings with Namhae Chemical Corp and JS Link.
Namhae Chemical, based in South Korea, produces and sells agricultural chemicals, while JS Link, a genomics-based biotechnology company, focuses on research and development of genomic analysis services in South Korea and internationally.
Anwar will then attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ dinner before concluding the day with a press conference.
Malaysia is one of the 12 founding members of APEC, alongside Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Currently, APEC comprises 21 economies, with a population of nearly three billion people, accounting for 62% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 48% of global trade in 2021. – Bernama
