KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains unchallenged for the presidency of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the party’s 2025 elections, as the nomination period closed at 11.59pm last night.
According to party sources, the deputy presidency will see a straight fight between incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who also serves as Economy Minister, and his challenger, Nurul Izzah Anwar.
For the 2025–2028 term, 12 individuals have submitted nominations for the party’s four vice president posts:
– Chang Lih Kang (Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation)
– Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability)
– Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (Selangor Menteri Besar)
– Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar)
– Datuk Seri R. Ramanan (Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development)
– Sim Tze Tzin (MP for Bayan Baru)
– R. Yuneswaran (MP for Segamat)
– Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan (PKR Hulu Selangor division chief)
– Senator Abun Sui Anyit (PKR Hulu Rajang division chief)
– Hee Loy Sian (former Selangor EXCO)
– Mustaffa Kamil Ayub (Chairman, National Entrepreneurship Institute)
– Manivanan Gowin (PKR Jempol division chief)
In other positions, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the Finance Minister, is the sole nominee for Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief. The PKR Wanita chief post will be contested between incumbent and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.
Nominations were conducted online over two days starting Thursday.
The election timeline includes: objection period is set for May 11 and 12, followed by appeals (May 13-14), withdrawal deadline (May 14), final list of candidates (May 15), campaign period (May 15-22) and voting (May 23).
The PKR National Congress, along with the AMK Congress and Wanita Congress, is scheduled to be held in Johor Baru from May 21 to 24. – Bernama
