#SHOWBIZ: Linda Rafar hints at Elite exit following mental health strain, post-concert backlash

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and actress Linda Rafar has hinted at a potential withdrawal from the popular 90s girl group, Elite, citing the emotional and mental toll of recent public criticism.

The 47-year-old artist, whose full name is Azlinda Abdul Rafar, shared her difficult decision in a heartfelt post on the Threads platform last night, admitting her heart was heavy as she considered leaving the group.

She suggested the strain followed “several tests” which allegedly affected her mental health.

“I only surrender to God. Forgive me if I can’t join Elite again,” she wrote.

“It’s so sad… I can’t even write. May God strengthen me in any situation.”

Linda’s emotional declaration comes just weeks after the group’s highly-anticipated Elite Live ’25 Concert, which was held at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), last September.

In a prior report by BH Online, Linda was said to have been profoundly affected by criticism that followed the performance, primarily concerning her stage attire.

While the mother-of-two reportedly accepted the public’s views regarding her outfit, she stated she could not tolerate it when some critics linked the matter to her family and allegedly “defamed her reputation,” leading to her refusal to forgive the individuals responsible.

The actress had become a hot topic on social media, with netizens claiming her concert look was not in keeping with the image of a Muslim woman.

This criticism was amplified as she is one of the celebrities often seen diligently attending religious prayers and classes.

Despite the possibility of her departure, the remaining members of Elite have shown unwavering solidarity.

A screenshot of a screen capture with Elite members, including Azza Zawari and Abby Abadi, was uploaded to Linda’s Instagram (IG) account, showing them offering words of encouragement.

Azza, in particular, made it clear that the group would not replace her, stating emphatically:

“Elite won’t be replaced with anyone else. Elite is us. I want you to know that.”

Linda did not respond when contacted regarding the emotional Threads post, but her statement has drawn significant attention from fans and fellow artistes, many of whom have offered best wishes and support for her health and well-being.
