LANGKAWI: Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is determined to complete the nation’s premier endurance event, Ironman Malaysia 2025, this Saturday in under 13 hours.
The 32-year-old former youth and sports minister is taking on the challenge to secure a pledged RM1 million donation for the people of Muar if he successfully completes the race.
The challenge was issued by local fashion brand Prima Valet (PV), which promised the incentive should he finish the triathlon — consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km cycling leg and 42.2km run — within the stipulated time.
In a post shared on his Facebook and TikTok accounts last night, Syed Saddiq said that the challenge was not for personal gain, but to help his constituents.
“For RM1 million for Muar, I accept Boss @primavalet’s challenge! Bring it on. Thirteen hours at Ironman Langkawi = RM1 million for Muar. When one door of opportunity closes, 10 more open. Alhamdulillah,” he wrote.
A short video uploaded with the post also showed a screenshot of PV’s Instagram post that read: “Boss Prima Valet wants to challenge @syedsaddiq. If he completes Ironman Langkawi within 13 hours, the boss will donate RM1 million to Muar. Dare to try???”
To demonstrate his commitment, Syed Saddiq shared clips of his intensive training and even shaved his head, joking that the move could save him three seconds in the race.
For the record, in last year’s edition he completed the race in 13 hours and 13 minutes, despite losing about 30 minutes after colliding with a fallen tree branch during the cycling leg.
Ironman Malaysia and Ironman 70.3 Langkawi 2025 are scheduled to take place this Saturday on Langkawi Island, drawing more than 1,800 athletes from 65 countries.
