Evacuee numbers in Perak and Kedah drop

Flood conditions in Perak and Kedah continue improving as evacuee numbers drop to 850 across remaining relief centres in both states.

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perak and Kedah has continued to improve with the number of evacuees housed at relief centres dropping to 850 tonight from 906 this morning.

In Perak, the number of victims decreased to 130 people from 36 families still taking shelter at one relief centre in the Manjung district.

All Perak evacuees are housed at the Sekolah Agara Rakyat Padang Serai relief centre after the SK Sungai Batu centre closed this evening.

In Kedah, the number of flood victims also dropped tonight to 720 people from 202 families compared to 770 from 216 families in the morning.

The Kedah State Disaster Management Committee confirmed all evacuees from Pendang, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena districts remain at five relief centres.

Pendang still has the highest number of evacuees with 572 people from 160 families housed at three relief centres.

Kota Setar has 136 people from 38 families remaining at one centre while Pokok Sena has 12 people from four families at a single centre.

Meanwhile, the official Public Infobanjir website reported the water level at Sungai Kedah at the Lebuhraya Bridge in Kota Setar had exceeded the alert level at 1.66 metres. – Bernama
