Trump praises Malaysia and Anwar again at APEC Summit

SHAH ALAM: United States President Donald once again showed he has not “moved on” as he praised Malaysia and its Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

He touched on regional peace whilst talking about the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord (KL Accord) between Thailand and Cambodia.

According to Sinar Harian, said Malaysia excelled as a mediator between the two countries.

“We also enjoyed the best facilities in Malaysia because there was warmth between these two countries (including the weather).

“Malaysia is truly extraordinary!

“The Prime Minister () is also a very good leader.

“In just two days, we signed a peace agreement.

“Two leaders met and they were like good friends.

“It (the moment) was something very beautiful because millions of lives can be saved through this agreement, even for hundreds of years,” he said.

He said this whilst speaking at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in on Wednesday (Oct 29).

also expressed hope that peace would remain forever in both countries as well as in the Middle East.

Last Sunday (Oct 27), Trump made his maiden visit to Malaysia to attend the 47th Asean Summit and related summits held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Outside the summit, Trump and witnessed the signing ceremony of the KL Peace Accord between Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet, an effort towards ending the decades-long dispute between the two neighbouring countries.

The peace agreement signed under the Asean-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025 also saw the establishment of the Asean Observer Force to monitor peace efforts and ensure long-term stability in the border area.

In addition, Trump also held a bilateral meeting with Anwar, where both leaders signed the Malaysia-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation in technology, energy and critical minerals.
