SINGAPORE: Seven Malaysians are among 34 suspects being sought by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for their alleged involvement in a government official impersonation scam syndicate that cheated victims in Singapore of at least S$41 million (RM145 million).

The suspects are believed to be members of an organised criminal group operating from a scam compound in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the SPF said in a statement today.

The latest development follows a joint enforcement operation between the SPF and Cambodian National Police on Sept 9, which targeted the syndicate’s base in the Cambodian capital.

Earlier, 15 suspects arrested in Singapore — 12 Singaporeans, two Malaysians and a Philippine national — were charged on Sept 11 and 12 for being members of a locally-linked network.

Further investigations and evidence collected in Cambodia led SPF to identify another 27 Singaporeans and the seven Malaysians believed to have worked at the same facility.

Warrants of arrest have been issued for all 34 suspects who are still abroad, and police are working with international partners, including Interpol, to locate and detain them.

“SPF will spare no effort to pursue criminals who base their operations locally or overseas and target Singapore,” it said, urging anyone with information to contact the police hotline or submit tips online.

All information will be kept confidential, the statement added.
