Faisal Halim kills off Negri's fightback


KUALA LUMPUR: advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals after defeating Negri Sembilan 6-3 on aggregate despite a 3-2 loss in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at the MBPJ Stadium on Wednesday.

The Red Giants, who held a comfortable 4-0 lead from the first leg, were given an early scare when Harith Samsuri opened the scoring for the Deer in the 12th minute.

Winger N. Javabilaarivin doubled the visitors’ lead with a header in the 27th minute to spark hopes of a comeback, but Willian Lira restored ‘s confidence with a strike in the 42nd minute.

Mio Tsuneyasu scored Negri’s third goal in the 80th minute to briefly revive their semi-final aspirations.

However, Faisal Halim sealed ‘s victory in the 86th minute with a decisive finish that ended Negri’s fightback.

Selangor will face Sabah in the semi-finals after the Rhinos defeated The Real Warriors (KTRW) 5-2 on aggregate following a 3-1 win in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at the Likas Stadium.

Sabah’s Bosnian hitman Ajdin Mujagic was the hero of the night as he completed a hat-trick with a penalty in the 56th minute after earlier scoring in the 10th and 21st minutes.

The East Coast side earned a consolation through Filipino defender Simen Lyngbo in first-half added time.
