KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesia’s men’s pair Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri overpowered Malaysia’s Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong in the first round of the Hylo Open in Saarbrucken, Germany, today.
World No. 17 Fajar-Shohibul, who reached back-to-back finals at the Denmark and French Opens and won the China Open in July, ousted world No. 25 Azriyn-Wee Kiong 21-16, 24-22 in 35 minutes at the Saarlandhalle Indoor Arena.
Though veterans Azriyn-Wee Kiong clawed back from big deficits in both games to make the score respectable, the Indonesians showed their class in the crucial moments.
