KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will only launch an investigation into the persistent service disruptions of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain if there are specific elements of corruption, Tan Sri Azam Baki said today.

Speaking to reporters, the MACC chief commissioner confirmed that there have not been complaints related to graft concerning the troubled Aerotrain system.

He also urged the public to understand the agency’s specific jurisdiction and to avoid assuming that all instances of wrongdoing fall under its purview, The Star reported.

“If it is under our jurisdiction, then we will investigate, but if not, then we cannot,” Azam stated after closing the 21st Principals Meeting of the Asean Parties Against Corruption in Petaling Jaya.

His comments come after Transport Minister Anthony Loke directed the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to conduct a thorough investigation into Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) following the recent series of breakdowns.

The Aerotrain has been plagued by significant reliability issues since its relaunch in July after a reported RM456 million upgrade.

Despite a reported 99.19 per cent operational availability, recurring mechanical and signalling problems, including power system failures caused by dislodged components, have led to public frustration, flight delays, and questions over maintenance standards.
