Barisan Nasional plans to field a candidate to contest the Pintasan seat in the 17th Sabah state election, with the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) also eyeing the constituency.
Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin said the coalition would choose a winnable candidate of high calibre acceptable to Pintasan voters, Sinar Harian reported.
The state Umno chairman urged the BN machinery to stay united as they face the polls.
This comes three days after Usno president Pandikar Amin Mulia, a Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) deputy chairman, expressed his intention to contest for the Pintasan seat.
Pandikar had contested in Pintasan in the 2020 state election but lost to Fairuz Renddan, now a state assistant minister with Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, by a mere 84 votes.
BN did not contest the seat in 2020 as it made way for Fairuz as part of its election pact with GRS at the time.
Usno was not part of GRS then.
The Pintasan constituency was created in 2020 from the Tempasuk and Usukan seats. Pandikar had served as Tempasuk assemblyman from 1994 to 2008.
