PUTRAJAYA, Oct 28 — A power-supply system malfunction was attributed to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain’s service disruption early this morning.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) in a statement today said a similar incident related to the power system, which is under the responsibility of the contractors IJM-PESTEC Joint Venture (IPJV), also caused downtime for the Aerotrain service on October 15.
MAHB added that Alstom, the project lead for the Aerotrain project and IPJV is expected to provide detailed report and clarification regarding the two incidents.
“Malaysia Airports continues to work closely with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay,” it said.
Despite the disruption, MAHB assured that operations at KLIA remained fully functional during this critical period as 530,000 passenger movement and 3,400 flights were recorded for the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits.
“Proactive measures have been activated to mitigate any impact, including deploying dedicated resources and stationing the Aerotrain contractors on-site around the clock to facilitate seamless passenger movements,” it noted.
Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said APAD had been instructed to open an investigation paper against MAHB following disruptions of the Aerotrain service.
He said the move was taken after the Aerotrain service had been operating for several months and the Transport Ministry viewed seriously every incident of disruption that occurred. — Bernama
