KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim will depart for on Thursday (Oct 30) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

“I will leave on Thursday after the Prime Minister’s Question Time in Parliament,” he said at a press conference following the conclusion of the 47th Asean Summit on Tuesday (Oct 28).

, who is also Finance Minister, will arrive in on the eve of the Apec meeting, which will be held from Oct 31 to Nov 1 in the southeastern coastal city of Gyeongju.

This will be the second time hosts Apec, having last done so in 2005.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz are expected to depart for South Korea today, after concluding a bilateral meeting between Asean and Australia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

According to international media reports, some Apec leaders have already begun arriving in South Korea ahead of the meeting.

Apec 2025 Korea, themed “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” will focus on advancing regional trade, artificial intelligence and sustainability, with ministerial sessions on health, the digital economy and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Malaysia last hosted Apec in 2020 in its first-ever virtual iteration due to the Covid-19 pandemic. – Bernama
