PUTRAJAYA: A power-supply system malfunction was attributed to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain’s service disruption early Tuesday morning (Oct 28).
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) in a statement on Tuesday said a similar incident involving the power system, under the responsibility of the contractors IJM-PESTEC Joint Venture (IPJV), also caused downtime for the Aerotrain service on Oct 15.
MAHB added that Alstom, the project lead for the Aerotrain project and IPJV was expected to provide a detailed report and clarification regarding the two incidents.
“Malaysia Airports continues to work closely with the Transport Ministry and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay,” it said.
Despite the disruption, MAHB assured that operations at KLIA remained fully functional during this critical period, with 530,000 passenger movements and 3,400 flights recorded during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
“Proactive measures have been activated to mitigate any impact, including deploying dedicated resources and stationing the Aerotrain contractors on-site around the clock to facilitate seamless passenger movements,” it noted.
Earlier, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said APAD had been instructed to open an investigation into MAHB following disruptions to the Aerotrain service.
He said the move was taken after the Aerotrain service had been operating for several months, and that the Transport Ministry took every disruption incident seriously. – Bernama
