LAWAS, Oct 28 — A secondary school student was allegedly molested after staying at her uncle’s house here over the weekend.
Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said his department received a report from the 15-year-old victim at 3.17pm on Sunday.
“Acting on the report, a police team then raided the 42-year-old suspect’s house and arrested the uncle at the scene.
“A search of the house revealed a shotgun and three shotgun cartridge shells. The suspect did not have any firearms licence. He was arrested for further investigation by the police,” Liong said in a statement today.
The man has been remanded for seven days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist with the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKSTK) 2017 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960,” he said.
Liong added the suspect has three previous records for drug-related offences.
In a separate operation on Sunday at 9.50pm, Liong said police also arrested a 34-year-old man here on suspicion of drug abuse.
No illegal items were found in the suspect’s house, car, or motorcycle, but a urine test was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
