KUALA LUMPUR: The subject of maintenance (or alimony) has returned to haunt actress and former Elite member, Abby Abadi, who claims she is still consumed by trauma and anxiety, to the extent that the issue now spills over into her dreams.
In a heartfelt post on Threads, the 48-year-old star, whose real name is Arbaiyah Abdul Manan, confessed that the dream deeply affected her and prompted her to issue a stern reminder to her son, Mohamed Danish Hakim, about carefully considering his future with his current girlfriend from Singapore.
“Yesterday, out of nowhere, I dreamed about alimony,” she wrote.
“The next morning, I immediately talked to Danish and reminded him that since he’s seeing someone from Singapore, he needs to think long and hard before getting married because if any issue arises later, it could be a disaster.”
Abby clarified that her advice focused not just on emotions but also on legal awareness, stressing that alimony laws differ between Malaysia and Singapore.
“In Malaysia, if a man fails to pay alimony, there’s still some room for discussion and negotiation. But in Singapore, the law is strict; if you get divorced and neglect alimony, you could end up in jail,” she said.
Abby admitted that the experience brought back old traumas and heightened her anxiety, as she constantly worries about her children’s future and well-being.
“I’ve been struggling with anxiety lately,” she confessed.
“Sometimes my thoughts wander, and I overthink many things. I worry and fear for my children’s future because the trauma from before still lingers,” she said.
“This isn’t just overthinking, it’s a mother’s concern for what lies ahead.”
Her honest post drew numerous reactions from netizens, many of whom expressed empathy and support for her maternal concern.
Abby was previously married to actor Norman Hakim in 2002, and they share three children. They divorced in 2008.
Norman later remarried actress Memey Suhaiza in 2011.
