East Asia Summit backs peace, appropriate issue handling, says Tok Mat


KUALA LUMPUR: All countries involved in the 20th East Asia Summit want regional issues handled appropriately, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Foreign Minister said peace and harmony were also a shared intention among the countries.

“Everything went well and according to plan. Everyone gave their views and generally wants peace and harmony,” he added.

He said countries also intend for any issues in the region to be handled appropriately, telling reporters this on the sidelines of the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits on Monday (Oct 27).

The East Asia Summit was initiated in 2005 with the first summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At its inception, it comprised 16 participating countries: Asean member states, Australia, , India, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.

The United States and the Russian Federation joined at the sixth East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia on 19 November 2011.
