PETALING JAYA:

Terengganu Bersatu chief Razali Idris has urged the party’s leaders to stop squabbling and focus on the upcoming Sabah state election, which he described as important for Perikatan Nasional.

Razali said infighting and attacking one another would only harm the party’s image and affect PN’s chances of regaining control of the state’s government at the Nov 29 polls.

“I ask all those who love Bersatu to call for a ceasefire. We have to focus on the Sabah state election because this election is very important.

“We want to take back the state government. If we keep fighting, the people of Sabah will hate us,” he told FMT.

He was commenting on the motion by Dungun Bersatu for party president Yassin to go on garden leave, and for  Azmin Ali to be dropped as secretary-general following public spats among high-profile leaders.

At Bersatu’s general assembly last month, a small group of delegates shouted at as he delivered his keynote speech, urging him to step down.

The PN chairman had revealed that there were certain quarters in Bersatu collecting signatures to oust him.

The turmoil has led to the sacking of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

Wan Saiful, however, accused several figures close to of straining ties among top leaders, singling out Azmin and Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz in particular.
