3 men abduct driver, steal his lorry-trailer load and dump him in middle of nowhere


KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry-trailer driver was abducted by three men in Bentong and driven about 34 kilometres towards Raub before being abandoned by the roadside with his eyes taped shut and hands bound with cable ties.

Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said the incident which occurred around 11.30pm yesterday, came to light when a passer-by came across the victim and called for help.

According to a news portal, Shahril said a police patrol team was despatched to the scene and later brought the victim to the Raub police headquarters.

“The 37-year-old victim works as a lorry-trailer driver transporting an iron load from Balakong, , to Gua Musang, .

“The victim had stopped at a roadside stall near the Bentong-Raub border to bathe and change clothes before he was attacked,” he said.

He added that the man was approached by three individuals who tied his hands with cable ties and forced him into a car.

“After being in the vehicle for about an hour, the victim was released near Taman Sri Wawasan, Raub, with his eyes covered with black adhesive tape,” he said.

He said the main motive of the suspects was to steal the lorry-trailer and the iron load.

“The victim did not sustain any injuries and is in stable condition. The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery,” he said.

Shahril also reminded the public to remain alert and aware of their surroundings, especially when stopping in secluded areas at night.

He said any information related to the incident or suspicious individuals could be channelled directly to the Raub IPD operations room at 09-355 2222.
