Leaders hail 'great meeting' at  13th Asean-US Summit


KUALA LUMPUR: The 13th Asean-United States Summit has been described as a “great meeting” by leaders, marked by constructive discussions and a shared commitment to deepen regional cooperation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim said the engagement was productive, with major decisions made on trade matters.

“Great meeting, good conversations, major decisions not to go to war (trade),” he said briefly when met on the sidelines of the summit.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto echoed similar sentiments, describing the session as excellent. He also viewed the peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia as a positive development.

“We support the US’s continuous engagement with Asean.

“It went very positively, and we are very happy that the US has mediated the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

“So yes, a positive outcome,” he told reporters.

United States President Donald is in Malaysia on a working visit from Oct 26 to 27 in conjunction with the 13th Asean-United States Summit and the 20th East Asia Summit.

His visit, at the invitation of as Asean 2025 Chairman, is ‘s first to the region since taking office as the 47th President of the United States in January.
